Based at Avoca Beach on the NSW Central Coast, I create abstract works that explore gesture, movement, texture and the physical qualities of materials.

My relationship with art began at an early age. In 1984, both of my major HSC works were selected for ARTEXPRESS, the annual exhibition of outstanding works by NSW Visual Arts students. After a long corporate career, I returned to the studio with my sense of curiosity and a desire to work instinctively.

My works are intuitive and experimental, mostly without a fixed outcome. Paint is poured, thrown, layered and allowed to move across the surface, creating forms that sit somewhere between control and
chance. Negative space plays an important role, giving the work a sense of openness and allowing individual gestures to carry greater weight.

Alongside paint, I am increasingly drawn to natural and found materials, introducing texture and physical elements that extend beyond the painted surface. Working close to the coast at Avoca Beach, there is an inevitable connection to the natural environment — not through literal representation, but through colour, weathering, organic forms and the
tension between refinement and rawness.

The work is ultimately about energy, material and instinct: allowing each piece to develop through the act of making.
